Located in Erie County, New York, approximately 10 miles northeast of Buffalo and 20 miles southeast of Niagara Falls, Amherst is Buffalo’s largest and most populous suburb. Amherst is home to Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village, a privately owned educational museum complex that features collections, exhibits, and historic documents relative to the history of the area. The museum is home to 11 historic buildings, a 25,000 square-foot exhibit hall, the Niederlander Research Library, and the Buffalo Niagara Scottish Festival, a special event held each August that features bagpiping, Scottish dancing, live music by Scottish bands, and the ever-popular Highland Games that include traditional sporting events such as the stone throw and caber toss.
